Women's History Month

It is our pleasure to provide you with our March newsletter. We hope to educate and perhaps, amuse you with a few facts about the third month in, of 2021. That said, did you know that the always- interesting, Queen Latifah, singer and actress had a birthday this month? She shares the limelight with other greats such as Micheal Irvine, and Shaquille O’Neal.

We also salute our dynamic and fabulous, Ms. Tina Turner, who with a birthday in November, is still performing at the glorious age of 81!  Her new concert tour begins in Denmark beginning late spring, 2021. You’re “Simply the Best.”

St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, is the day that we commemorate St. Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland. Many legends reveal that, for instance ---  he drove the snakes out of Ireland and utilized a shamrock (or four-leaf clover) to explain how the Trinity worked. The church of Ireland began to celebrate this day of his death, March 17th, with religious services and holy days. He converted the Irish people to Christianity and founded churches and monasteries and had schools constructed.

Many celebrate whole-heartedly at pubs and bars, while we utilize ride-share to get us home safely. Leprechaun folklore pleads with us to wear green or take your chances on getting pinched!

Women's History Month celebrated in the US, Australia and UK, in the month of March, is also celebrated in Canada --- in October. It has been observed since 1911. Women’s  History Month, once Women’s History Week, eventually became a way to celebrate, educating others about women’s achievements, opportunities,  contributions and equality. March of 1987 was declared as the first Women’s History Month. We, at CA&C, proudly celebrate this month, the dynamic contributions of women to our society.

International Women’s Day observed since the early 1900’s  --- has seen changes in women’s rights, and equality, although, not as significant as one would hope by 2021. While more women are in the executive workplace, there is still much work to be done. We would think that there is greater equal opportunity defending women today, unfortunately, that’s not the case. Women still do not make the same wage as a man, and strides still need to be made in many areas of career and politics, although, we do now have our first female and African-American vice president.  Additionally, there is a greater number of women who have been shattered by violence against them than to a man.

While the above rings true, we do and should applaud some great advancements with women in mind, such as astronauts in space, supreme court judges, and now, a vice president of the United States. Women have options like never before, and are encouraged to grab a hold of opportunities.

Now, each year, globally, we inspire women and honor their accomplishments.  IWD is an official holiday and celebrated in countries such as Cambodia, China, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Uganda, and Zambia. Some countries decorate their mothers with gifts and special accolades, while a global connection ranging from political demonstrations, work conferences, governmental festivities, and other events not only support the working woman, but we praise and celebrate her and her significance in our world.

This said, I would like to honor my mother, an incredibly special influence in my life. Annette, the “A” in CA&C Video, is truly a prominent portrait of inspiration. She created an environment that was about the work, but also the importance of loving others was instilled in me at an early age. She taught me in our family-run business,  to do a better-than-adequate job no matter what. She introduced our faith to me, and what it means to help others first. Thank you, Mom, for the guidance, love, and support that you have shown throughout my life and through the trials and tribulations that you had endured to make it where you are today.

Spring Solstice, the first day of spring --- March 20, 2021 ---  the Spring or Vernal Equinox took place at 2:37 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, in the Northern Hemisphere. The spring solstice is when the amount of darkness and daylight are almost the same. We now wake up in darkness, but continue to play long after the workday is done. We will enjoy the longest day of the year on June 20, 2021, when we will experience the most sunlight.

With spring upon us now, while performing your spring cleaning, as you locate your VHS cassettes, be sure to give me a call. I will convert them into digital files so that you can once again enjoy these family treasures of once-film mastery.

Enjoy the month of March!
